The pleated form references the textile innovations of Mariano Fortuny y Madrazo (1871–1949), whose experiments with fabric, light, and surface transformed early 20th-century design. Working alongside his wife and muse, Henriette Negrin, Fortuny developed many of his techniques at Palazzo Orfei in Venice, where pleating, fabric printing, cotton velvets, and the creation of lighting objects were explored in parallel.

The influence of Palazzo Fortuny’s ateliers continues to shape Venetian craftsmanship today. Venetia Studium draws upon this legacy, translating historic methods into refined contemporary objects that retain the atmosphere, elegance, and mystery of their origins.
